For brands, accurate product data is essential, but managing that data shouldn't be a burden. Unlike many platforms that make you manually input data in rigid spreadsheets, Carbonfact handles this process for you. Our platform automatically pulls data from your IT systems and Excel files, while our Ops and Data Science teams take care of cleaning and standardizing it – ensuring your data is accurate, consistent, and ready for reporting without creating extra work for you.
That said, we also understand that automated processes need your specific product expertise, especially for valuable knowledge that isn't captured in your systems.
That's why we've created Rules. While Carbonfact uses powerful cleaning algorithms and a database built from hundreds of fashion brands to fill information gaps, Rules let you refine key product details across your catalog. When you have specific data that isn't captured in your IT systems, like more accurate textile specifications or transportation scenarios, you can directly update these details while still benefiting from our internal review to ensure data integrity.
It gives you the best of both worlds: less administrative work with more control when you need it.
Examples of Rules
Here are three clear examples of the Rules that Carbonfact currently supports:
- Textile Composition Rules
You can refine fabric specifications like yarn count (dtex) or fabric weight (gsm) when you have more accurate information than what's in your systems. - Transport Scenario Rules
You can create custom rules to specify transportation scenarios across your product categories, ensuring accurate modeling of your supply chain logistics. - Product Mass and Packaging Rules
You can refine product and packaging weights across your catalog when you have more precise data than what's automatically captured.
All rules are reviewed by Carbonfact before being applied to ensure data integrity.
What’s New?
With Rules, you can now:
- Directly correct incorrect data assumptions
If Carbonfact's system made assumptions to fill data gaps that don’t reflect your actual product details, like a different process step, material type, or product weight, you can now set a rule to refine it directly in the platform. - Apply rules across multiple products
You can define where rules apply, making it easy to scale your data corrections across your entire inventory – whether you're adjusting one product or hundreds. Even better, they align with your brand’s internal product taxonomy — so you can apply rules based on how your teams are structured.
For example, if your system categorizes products as Ready-to-Wear > Knitting, you can target rules specifically to that category. This ensures the right teams — who have the full technical context — can manage data corrections efficiently and accurately across their product lines.
- Track changes with full transparency
All adjustments are logged in a dedicated view, so you can see what changes were made, when they were applied, and by who. Before Rules are applied, Carbonfact reviews and creates a new release for your platform, so you’re sure to have a second set of eyes at all times.
Why It Matters
Rules are about giving you more control. Instead of submitting requests and waiting for updates, you can now take direct action to ensure your product data is accurate, but we still perform an internal review and follow the release process to maintain data integrity.
This release is an important step towards increased control for our customers. A step towards becoming a platform that enables faster data adjustments, greater control and ultimately, increased data accuracy for your environmental reporting.
What’s Next?
This is just the start. Rules will continue to expand, with more types of rules and greater flexibility. The goal? To build a system where refining data is faster, easier, and always in your hands.
