November '24 Platform Updates: All GHG Scopes Now in One Unified Platform

We’re excited to announce the biggest update yet to Carbonfact’s Corporate Carbon Accounting module! These improvements break down Scopes 1-3, making it easier to collect, process, and report your corporate emissions across all GHG Protocol Scopes in the platform itself. This update lets you manage all your emissions data in one place, reducing errors, improving visibility, and making it easier to meet standards like the GHG Protocol and CSRD. 

Key Updates

1. Bulk Data Uploads

No more manual data entry – now you can import facilities, expenses, and transportation data all at once using simple CSV templates. Just fill out the template, upload it to the platform, and see your results immediately.

2. Transportation Routes

You can now directly upload individual or multiple freight routes with the use of our template. The platform will then calculate emissions for each one automatically. It also lets you see both upstream and downstream transportation impacts in a single view, which means you no longer have to jump between data sources to get the full picture.

3. Simplified Expense Tracking

Tracking emissions from your spending is now faster. Add categories like marketing, software, or equipment, and the platform will automatically match them with the right emission factors. Bulk process your annual spending data and cover categories like Purchased Goods and Services in minutes.

4. Employee Emissions

For employee commuting or business travel, the platform calculates emissions based on distances, transportation modes, and even large datasets. Input your employee data, and Carbonfact will handle the rest. If needed, you can override these manually.

5. Better Scope 2 Reporting

We’ve improved Scope 2 reporting by adding both location-based and market-based calculation methods. This means you can now see the impact of renewable energy sources and track emissions more accurately.

6. Flexible Data Handling

Every business is different, and Carbonfact gives you the flexibility to manually adjust emissions data or add notes for unique cases. This ensures your reports are accurate and ready for compliance audits.

Using these new features is simple:

1. Prepare Your Data:
   1. Ensure facilities, expenses, and transportation data are current.
   2. Use pre-configured Excel templates for bulk uploads.
      
2. Set Up Your Calculations:
   1. Select units so calculations are based on data you actually have 
   2. Coming in January: Add notes to bring context to your raw data and improve data collection year over year.
3. Generate Reports:
   1. Export GHG Protocol compliant reports.
   2. Visualize GHG Scope breakdowns across Explorer or Trends modules.

Why Did We Further Incorporate Scopes 1 and 2?

Most of a brand’s emissions – often 80% – come from Scope 3, specifically 3.1 Purchased Goods and Services. While our specialization is in calculating purchased goods in Scope 3.1, we are now bringing Scopes 1, 2 and the rest of Scope 3 into the same platform – giving you a full GHG Report with all the actionable data you need to focus your decarbonization efforts across all scopes. For example: you can now easily compare your total GHG emissions breakdown Year over Year. By understanding your emissions holistically, you can take more targeted action to reduce your impact.
